Trainer Tony O’Sullivan has a total of seven starters this weekend at Woodbine Racetrack and the New Zealand native believes he could be in store for a big couple of nights.
O’Sullivan’s entries all seem very competative in their respective dashes, including a pair in the $34,000 Preferred Pace, Casimir Jitterbug and Frankies Dragon.
O'Sullivan will send out one starter on Friday evening with the remaining six on Saturday.
The Cambridge, Ont. resident took some time to offer his thoughts on each starter.
Friday
Race 11
Horse: Air Guitar Hanover
Driver: Chris Christoforou
Morning Line: 15-1
“I like the filly, but the post certainly isn’t in our favour. She just hasn’t had any luck and she’s due for a big effort. She will go off to be a broodmare soon, so hopefully we can end off her racing career on a good note.”
Saturday
Race 2
Horse: Machal Jackson
Driver: Chris Christoforou
Morning Line: 4-1
“I think he’ll be in the top three. He can certainly win and was very good last week. With the trip he got, he probably should of won, but he doesn’t have that killer speed. This is his third start back after a layoff and he continues to improve.”
Race 6
Horse: Alsace Hanover
Driver: Doug McNair
Morning Line: 3-1
“I think if he’s as good as he was last start, he wins. He’s that good of a horse, but he’s inconsistent along with post nine. He trained super yesterday [Wednesday] and if he’s anything like last start, he should win in here.”
Race 10
Horse: Narragansett
Driver: Chris Christoforou
Morning Line: 7-1
“I really can’t comment on this hose. He’s not unfit; he’s trained up and tight, but he’s one of those horses where I really don’t know what to expect. He was sent to me about a month ago and I’m not sure if he can carry the speed on a big track like Woodbine.”
Race 11
Horse: Frankies Dragon
Driver: Chris Christoforou
Morning Line: 8-1
“He’s coming off the gate likely and has a very quick brush for a piece of a mile. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was right there too. He might be better off sitting in third or fourth and shaking loose late. That’s his type of trip.”
Horse: Casimir Jitterbug
Driver: Doug McNair
Morning Line: 4-1
“He raced very well last week and Apprentice Hanover will be the favourite and he’s beatable if they don’t go a soft half. If ‘Jitterbug’ sits on his back through an honest pace, he can beat him. Doug is driving him, which means he’ll likely wind him up and put him in the race and he and 'Apprentice' will likely be one-two at the half.”
Race 12
Horse: Brees Creek
Driver: Chris Christoforou
Morning Line: 3-1
“I think he’ll be first or second. The only thing I’d be worried about is that there’s a lot of gate speed in this race and he likes to race from behind, so hopefully he isn’t too far back. Chris said he was slipping last week because there was some ice on the track and he still won.”
O’Sullivan’s Most Probable Winner: Alsace Hanover
