One thing that you surely don't expect to see when you step out of your hotel room or favourite restaurant is a humungous pile of spent hay and steaming manure. Although, that exact scenario recently became reality for patrons of a couple of establishments, and the local raceway was forced to go and sniff out some answers.
A report by WHAS11 in Louisville, Kentucky explains that something clearly went wrong in recent weeks, as a massive pile of the waste had collected after multiple dumps in a vacant lot off of one of Louisville's biggest streets.
The article states that there was some sort of mix-up by the company (Equine Organic, LLC) that disposes the waste for local Churchill Downs. The report shows that the pile sat roughly 100 yards from a local hotel and was within close distance to a Waffle House.
WHAS11 interviewed Rick Cook, the caretaker for the property, who stated that the employees from the waste-removal company had to have removed a security chain to access what it had inexplicably deemed as a suitable dumping ground for the mass amounts of waste. The company did not have permission to dump on the site.
Equine Organic, LLC has been dealing with Churchill Downs' waste for 10 years and has never encountered a problem of this nature. The company came back and removed the waste once the situation came to light.
