The duo of trainer Jamie Copley and driver Stephane Gendron were nearly unstoppable at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening, which should come as no surprise based on their success at the Gloucester, Ontario oval
in 2010.
Copley, who sent out a career-best 196 winners last year while celebrating his first $1-million season in 2010, sent out four winners on Sunday’s card while Gendron finished the night with five trips to victory lane.
They clicked with My Old Friend John (1:57.2) in Race 3, Littlebitoflife (1:57.3) in Race 5, Art I Special (1:58) in Race 6 and Colamotion (2:00.4) in Race 10. Gendron’s other winner came behind the Gary McDonald-trained Unbounded River (2:00.1) in Race 4.
Copley, who finished last year with a UTR of .420, has assembled a 16-7-2 record from 33 starts this season and a UTR of .622.
Gendron, who racked up a career-best $1.4-million in earnings last year, has watched his UDR climb significantly from last year, as well. He finished his 2010 season at .349, but his 16-for-52 record this season has helped this year’s UDR climb to .465.
In other Sunday evening action, Its a Good Thing front-stepped to a 1:56.1 triumph in the $14,000 Preferred Pace. The five-year-old son of Western Maverick sliced out fractions of :28.4, :58 and 1:27.2 before using a :28.4 final frame to halt the teletimer in 1:56.1. Runner-up Peenie, who was sent off as the odds-on choice, came up a head short. Livefreeordiehard finished third.
The gelding, who is owned by 9174 7998 Quebec Inc of Blainville, QC, won for the third time in as many tries this season. The 14-time winner has managed to stash away $162,569 to date.
