Fated Fire bided her time in the $12,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at The Raceway at Western Fair District as she struck late to prevail by a neck in a blanket finish.
Ladies From Hell (Garrett Rooney) designated herself as the pacesetter and controlled the timer with splits in :28.2, :58.3 and 1:27.2. Daryl Thiessen and Fated Fire got away fourth from post two in the field of six. Grand Circuit (Travis Cullen) moved first over at the half and Fated Fire followed her cover. With Val Victorian (Samuel Fillion) moving to the outside, the field continued through the mile in two even halves. Fated Fire charged down the stretch towards the wire and she met Ima Doll (Travis Henry) and Ladies From Hell in a photo finish. With a :31.1 final panel, Fated Fire prevailed as the winner by a neck over Ima Doll, who nabbed second over Ladies From Hell.
Fated Fire (Straight Shooting-Shes Meant To Be) is a five-year-old mare owned by Mindy Findling Repko and trained by Pam Forgie. She won her 14th career race from 80 starts and now has $126,469 banked lifetime. She paid $10.10 to win.
