In the $10,000 featured pace at Flamboro Downs on Jan. 12, Grannys Watching captured the win for driver Jason Ryan and trainer Tim Myers.
In a field of only four horses due to two scratches, Grannys Watching settled at the back of the pack early, while the 2-5 favourite, Black To Reality (Austin Sorrie), took control of the race from the start. The opening fractions were set at :28.4 for the first quarter and :58.4 at the half, with Black To Reality holding a firm lead.
As the race progressed, Grannys Watching made her move, advancing into third just before the half-mile marker. She began her drive down the backstretch, quickly closing the gap and taking command at the three-quarter pole in 1:28. By the final turn, she was well in control, opening up a four-length lead as she powered to the finish line. The final time was a sharp 1:56.3. She paid $7 to win.
Black To Reality held on for second, Acefortyfour Rebel (Sam Fillion) was third and Wildcat Watching (Daryl Thiessen) rounded out the top four.
Grannys Watching, a four-year-old mare by Hes Watching out of Granny Pants, is owned by David Omicioli.
