Hi Maintenancechic made a three-wide move at the third quarter mark and sprinted home to win her first start in over six months at odds of 26-1 in the featured $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Wednesday at Western Fair Raceway
.
The former Pennsylvania Sires Stakes competitor was teamed up with driver J. Bradley Harris for her four-year-old debut. She got away fifth and angled off the pylons into the third over spot behind Misty Moonstone while reigning class champion Pathtodover and Call Me Yours battled on top through fractions of :29.2, :58.4 and 1:27.1. As the field raced by the third quarter station, Harris sent the longest shot on the board three-deep and she sprinted down the stretch to win in 1:58.1 over the 'good' track. Misty Moonstone chased home the winner, finishing three-quarters of a length behind in second, while Pathtodover finished over three lengths back in third.
Hi Maintenancechic, a winner of five races and $136,918 in purses lifetime, is trained by Sue Marie Gangell for owner John Devito of Whitestone, New York. The Blissfull Hall-Rebeccas Filly mare paid a $55.10 to win, but wasn't the biggest surprise of the day.
Five-year-old mare Lotta Cami rallied home from off the pace to pull off a 90-1 shocker in her conditioning assignment earlier on the card. Robert Sparling Jr. worked out the 2:04.2 winning trip for the Cambest-Brads Little Sis mare, who is trained by Terry McKibbin for owner David McCormick of Teeswater, Ont. The victory was her first in almost a year and a half and second lifetime in 21 starts. She returned a whopping $183 for a $2 win ticket.
The big payouts continued throughout the card as Piracy pulled off a 23-1 upset, J M Lasstax won at odds of 19-1, and Paris Viking scored at 13-1.
