One of Canada's winningest Standardbreds in 2024, Gascoigne Sundae has continued that winning momentum into the new year as the claiming pacer extended his current streak of successful starts to five in a row on Friday night, Jan. 10 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Driven by Travis Henry in the evening's $7,700 eighth race, Gascoigne Sundae closed off cover with his new stablemate Bryant Seelster and Jason Ryan tracking that three-wide move off the final turn for a 1-2 finish for trainer Gerard Demers. Gascoigne Sundae finished 1-1/2 lengths in front in the 1:58.2 mile on a snowy night in London, Ont., paying $4.80 to win as the 9-5 favourite.
Gascoigne Sundae ended an 18-win season -- which tied for third best in Canada in 2024 -- with three in a row in December and followed up a victorious start to his 2025 campaign on New Year's Day at The Raceway with a repeat score in the $10,000-$15,000 claiming handicap.
Demers has trained the seven-year-old Hilarious Halo gelding since a $9,000 claim last October at Flamboro Downs by La Ferme Tag Inc. of Papineauville, Que. Gascoigne Sundae has won eight of 11 starts for his current connections and the pacer has improved his career win total to 38.
