Despite the cold and windy conditions, Majorca N sealed the deal, winning the $36,232 Mares Open Pace at Bally's Dover on Wednesday, Jan. 1.
Majorca N was launched from post seven by driver Corey Callahan. She quickly took control, leading the field through an opening quarter in :27.2, with the 2-5 favourite Elektra A (Tim Tetrick) settling into the pocket. Maintaining an uncontested lead, Majorca N reached the half in :55.4.
Last week's winner, Disturbed Hanover (Barton Dalious), made a bold first-over move up the backstretch, while Factory Girl (Victor Kirby) followed second-over and Lofty Treasure (Trae Porter) was carried into a third-over trip on the rim. However, none of those bids materialized into a serious challenge.
Majorca N continued to control the pace, hitting the third quarter in 1:24.4. Elektra A, who had bested Majorca N in their previous matchup, launched a final charge along the pylons, but her bid fell short. Majorca N held strong to take the win, with Elektra A finishing second and Factory Girl crossing the line in third.
Majorca N, a 10-year-old mare by Art Major out of Cloudy Beach, won by a measured length in 1:53.2 and paid $7.40 for the victory. She is trained by Dylan Davis, who co-owns with Michael Casalino Jr. from Freehold, New Jersey.
There is a $2,111 Pentacecta carryover to the 14th race on Thursday, Jan. 2.
Bally’s Dover races Monday through Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. post time.
