Opening Night - Remmen In Action

Team Remmen won the first ever Meadowlands race in 1976 with Quick Baron, and the barn will send out Bet To Win in Race 7 and A Patchy Frost in Race 8.

The Fastest, But Not Necessarily The Best

Take a look at the last four Meadowlands seasons, and who was the fastest performer each season. Normally you would associate the fastest with a fancy won/lost record, but lately that hasn’t been the case.

Meadowlands only records:

2006 - Holborn Hanover - 1:46.4
For the meet: 10 starts and a 3-1-1 record. That included two starts in January in the Presidential where he did little damage finishing 6th and 9th).

2007 - With Anticipation - 1:47.2
For the meet: 25 starts and a 3-4-12 record. That's right, twelve third-place finishes. He missed one cheque all year at the Meadowlands and made 19 consecutive starts in a claimer. Not what you normally would think in terms of the fastest horse for a particular meet. With Anticipation did have something else going for him though. His sire, Jennas Beach Boy, was the fastest horse at the Meadowlands in 1996 when he won in 1:47.3. That record was not lowered for just short of ten years by any horse!

2008 - Art Official - 1:47
For the meet: 4 starts and a 1-2-0 record. His only win at the Meadowlands at age three was in the Meadowlands Pace! This coming from the same colt who was soundly beaten earlier in the year in the Berry’s Creek. He wound up turning the tables on Somebeachsomewhere, something no other horse ever did!

2009 - Won The West - 1:47
For the meet: 8 starts and a 2-0-2 record. Jim Morrill, Jr. won his first Breeders Crown, and it just so happened to be the fastest Breeders Crown event ever contested!
