It took a lifetime best performance for P H Bestman to knock off the foes he faced in the $47,800 final of the Valedictory Pacing Series at Woodbine Racetrack on Thursday afternoon.
The four-year-old son of Cambest brushed to command in the backstretch and fended off eight rivals for Scott Zeron, who engineered the 1:51.4 score with the Matt Dupuis trainee.
Mcsamson led the field to the quarter pole in :27 seconds before giving way to Warp Speed, who looped his way to the engine as the field made its way into the backstretch. Zeron shot off the rail at that point with P H Bestman, and he was allowed to clear shortly after a :56.1 half-mile clocking flashed up on the board.
Zeron kept the pedal to the metal around the final turn and took them past the three-quarter marker in 1:24.1 before finishing them off with a :27.3 final quarter. Warp Speed was second and He Da Cool Man rounded out the top three.
Dr. James Shive of Shubenacadie, NS holds the papers on the 15-time winner, who picked up 11 wins in last year’s sophomore campaign. The $23,900 payday bumped his lifetime bankroll to $90,753.
