UPDATED: Barry Hearn Passes

Trot Insider has learned that owner/breeder Barry Hearn of St. Mary's, Ont. passed away Tuesday, February 3 at the St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy battle with an illness. He was 69

.

Hearn worked with the late Bill Wellwood for much of his career in the industry.

Hearn found success with many horses, but some of the most notable included Apaches Fame mare Candy (p,5,1;54.3f - $210,602) and Earl sons At A Boy Adam (4,2:00.1f - $118,877) and At A Boy Eric (7,1:57m - $381,272), that latter two being full brothers out of Hearn's Speedy Somolli mare Fully Vested.

At A Boy Adam and At A Boy Eric were very successful on the Ontario Sires Stakes circuit.

A memorial visitation will be held at the L.A. Ball Funeral Chapel, 7 Water Street North, St. Marys, on Friday, February 6, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The memorial service will be held at St. Marys United Church, 85 Church Street South, St. Marys, on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Pirie Mitchell officiating. In his memory donations to The Barry Hearn Memorial Bursary Fund (for Youth Sports) or The Foundation for Education (Downie Central School Playground Fund) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

We would like to send our condolences to Myrte and her family during this time of loss. We have lost a friend who always shared a smile and the sport has lost a true fan and horseman. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Barry was a good man - a good horse man - and a good friend. He loved horse racing but most of all he loved his family - especially his grandchildren, of whom he was so proud.
He will be sorely missed but well remembered by all who knew him. Racing has lost a great friend and a great supporter.

A wonderful man and horseman who will be missed by all. His always smiling face and love of chatting about his horses to everyone around town will be missed. He loved to share the industry ... there should be more like him
