Grand River Raceway's planned project to reconfigure its half-mile track into a five-eighths mile racing surface has been put on hold.
According to a statement posted on Monday, Oct. 24 by Grand River Raceway, the proposed plan to construct a five-eighths mile racetrack this fall has been deferred.
The racetrack reconfiguration was initially announced in July 2021 with a 2023 target date for completion.
As a result of the project's deferral, the 2023 harness racing season will proceed on the current half-mile oval.
The statement reports that the project has been deferred for consideration next fall "due to several factors." Specific reasons were not provided.
Grand River Raceway’s 2022 harness racing season recently wrapped up on Sept. 26. Race dates for the 2023 season will be released in the new year.

There is a beautiful 5/8 mile track available that deserves more race dates. They also have a large on track handle and racing there would be way better than racing on a 1/2.
