Kentuckiana Farms has announced that 2007 Breeders Crown and Governor’s Cup winner Santanna Blue Chip, p,2,1:51.3 ($1,608,732) will stand the 2009 breeding season at Kentuckiana Farms of Ontario, located at Emerald Ridge Farm in Rockwood.

Kentuckiana Farms will serve as Syndicate Manager and along with Emerald Ridge Farm will manage his breeding career.

At the end of the 2008 racing season, Santanna Blue Chip will retire as the richest son of Art Major, both in two-year-old and career earnings. During his two-year-old campaign, Santanna Blue Chip finished in the money in all 11 of his starts (11-5-4-2) on his way to become the richest freshman pacer with two-year-old earnings of $931,223 -- $150,000 ahead of the great Somebeachsomewhere.

Santanna Blue Chip’s brilliant freshman season was highlighted by wins in the $760,968 Governor’s Cup and $650,000 Breeders Crown, defeating Lonestar Legend, Sand Shooter, and the ill-fated Roberts Rage along the way. Santanna Blue Chip was also stakes placed in the Metro, Champlain, and Nassagaweya, finishing either second or third in all three to Somebeachsomewhere.

To date at three, Santanna Blue Chip has earned $681,637 in his 14 starts, finishing in the money in all but four starts – bringing his career totals to 25-7-8-6 and $1,608,732.

During this season, Santanna Blue Chip’s credits include winning the Simcoe Stakes and Art Rooney elimination and stakes-placed finishes to Somebeachsomewhere in the Burlington, North America Cup elim, Confederation Cup and Messenger. Santanna Blue Chip also stakes-placed in the Art Rooney final and Little Brown Jug. Santanna Blue Chip will end his career after the 2008 Breeders Crown.

Santanna Blue Chip possesses outstanding conformation and a can’t miss early speed pedigree, being the richest son of Art Major and from the two-year-old Debutante and New Jersey Sire Stakes winner Mmissus Hanover, 2, 1:53.4. Santanna Blue Chip was a striking $75,000 yearling and his full brother Jody J Blue Chip recently sold at the 2008 Lexington Selected Sale Company annual yearling sale for $100,000.

The 2009 service fee for Santanna Blue Chip will be $6,000. Syndication details will be available in the near future.

truly a bargain @ 6000 for a horse with brilliant gate speed and that extra kick at the end while still unduring tough trips chasing what some say is the greatest horse ever.ps; the above mentioned syd grattan may have been the first horse jodi ever sat behind

I bought his mother off the racetrack and sold her to Blue Chip. She was a long, tall, leggy mare so I expect he will produce size. I agree, though, in today's market, the stud fees have got to be lower or the mares won't be bred. Art Major is as HOT as they come right now for pacers.

6,000 maybe a little steep considering his somewhat dissappointing 3 yr old year and size perhaps 4,000 would attract more mares

I disagree it was good for horse racing but not so lucky for santana bluechip that the beach came along in his 3 year old year campaign. 6ooo is a bargain for a chance at all the oss money available to him as well as all the big races the beaches offspring are eligable to race in as well. Time will tell but it sure is going to be nice to see both of these great horses foals compete against each other. Who knows. Congrats to everyone involved.

Definetely one of Carl Jamieson's best horses ever. Carl has had some good one's; Syd Grattan, Duke of Abbey, Elegant Killean. Possibly the best horse to come from a very respected horse trainer.
