'Dewey' Leaving Ontario

Deweycheatumnhowe 3,1:50.4 ($3,177,112) is the latest stallion to leave Ontario for the 2013 breeding season.

The seven-year-old son of Muscles Yankee is relocating from Strathroy, Ontario's Westwind Farm to New York's Morrisville College and will be standing for a fee of $10,000, live foal, in 2013.

Trained and driven in his on-track career by Ray Schnittker, Deweycheatumnhowe was dynamite on the track, winning 22 of his 25 races.

'Dewey' was golden at age two, as he captured multiple New Jersey Sire Stakes and every major stakes event in his path. After reigning supreme in his fall stakes engagements at the Red Mile, Deweycheatumnhowe swept both the Valley Victory Stakes and his Breeders Crown category, en-route to an undefeated 10-for-10 season in which he banked $922,000 in purse earnings.

At three, Dewey triumphed in the Dickerson and swept the Dancer Memorial before capturing both the elimination and final of the Hambletonian on harness racing's grandest stage. In a season in which he won 12 of his 15 starts and banked over $2.2 million, Dewey went on to win his division of the Bluegrass Stakes and emerge victorious from a race off in the Kentucky Futurity at the Red Mile.

Deweycheatumnhowe began his stud career in Kentucky before moving on to Ontario.

Deweycheatumnhowe’s first crop raced at two in 2012. He had the winners of just under a million dollars, with numerous stakes winners. However, Alan J. Leavitt, president of Walnut Hall Ltd. and the Deweycheatumnhowe syndicate manager, stated that he had every confidence Deweycheatumnhowe would emulate two of Leavitt’s earlier great sires, Speedy Crown and Speedy Somolli, both of whom established themselves as great sires from their second crop of two-year-olds. Deweycheatumnhowe’s second crop will race at two in 2013. Leavitt added that Walnut Hall Ltd. will be breeding 20 of their high powered trotting mares in 2013.

Owned by the Deweycheatumnhowe Stable, Dewey's top progeny include Ma Chere Hall, Mystical Dew and Caveat Emptor.
