On Thursday, May 26 at Mohawk Racetrack, a two-horse accident occurred during the tenth race, and a result two drivers were unseated and sent to hospital
.
If I Didnt Care, driven by Jody Jamieson was closing for second in the stretch when the three-year-old filly made a break, stumbled and caused interference to a number of horses. Most of the field was able to avoid Jamieson and his mount, but Dancers Cam and driver Mark MacDonald could not avoid collision and as a result he was hurled from his bike.
Jamieson was able to walk off the track under his own power and later went to Guelph hospital for x-rays on his shoulder.
MacDonald was transported via ambulance to Hamilton General Hospital. Trot Insider learned that MacDonald suffered multiple facial fractures and had went for a CAT scan.
Curtis MacDonald told Trot Insider Friday morning that, "(Mark MacDonald) is currently in the hospital with a broken nose, broken jaw and lost most of his teeth --- also had his chin stitched as well as his upper lip. Unknown if his right forearm and left wrist are broken yet."
There were conflicting reports Thursday night as to whether MacDonald suffered a separated shoulder or not. Anthony MacDonald told Trot Insider early Friday afternoon that he saw Mark and that his "nose is broken, but not squashed like it looked last night. (His) jaw is broken, but we don't know how badly until he gets a special x-ray. His shoulder was dislocated, so they are both bad now, but no life-threatening injuries. He certainly is an unlucky kid. I've never seen a human endure so much pain."
The horses involved in the accident appeared to have escaped serious injury.

Harness racing is and always has been a difficult and dangerous sport. Spills and mishaps occur daily. Hope for a speedy recovery to all those that succumb to injury do to the near misses and altercations that do occur.

Mr MacArthur you obviously missed the points of my comment and for the record I was not hijacking anything. Your comment is very ironic because my whole point was that I WAS putting Mark's well being ahead of everything.I was simply responding to Mr. Guthries comments and it is he who in my opinion hijacked this thread by using it to take a veiled shot at us gamblers. Why would anyone feel the need to somehow equate such a serious incident with how a gambler criticizes a drive? What exactly is the connection that he felt the need to make such a point. I understand that most of you consider Mark a friend and it is nice to see all these people wishing him well. We "gamblers" are people too and we don't wish to see such incidents.When I saw the headline of the accident I went and watched the video and after having seen it and how serious it was the first thing I thought about was that it was a very serious incident and I hoped mark was ok (I knew Jody was). So I silently said a prayer in my office for Mark and sent my best wishes which was on my earlier post. So I do take exception at you for accusing me of hijacking this thread. Had you scrolled down you would've seen my first and only intended comment on this thread which was to wish Mark a speedy recovery.
However when someone uses this same thread to take a shot at us "so called gamblers" which by the way are the lifeblood of your industry I will not stay silent.
Your comments are another example of how many of you so called horsepeople rather then thanking us so called gamblers often seem to show only contempt for us.
Oh and by the way I used to be an owner of a few trotters and a pacer.
So I don't speak as just a gambler. I would also venture to say that many of you so called horsepeople have placed a wager or two . Guess that makes you a nobody like me.

Every person around me who saw the race was very concerned for Mark, Jody and the horses.I don't think horsemen realize the average fan's knowledge of racing and their appreciation of it. I saw Mark (although I don't know him personally) make his way up from "B" tracks to "Downtown" with great skill every step of the way. Mark is a huge talent and it is sickening to see how he has suffered so many times. Courage, Mr. Macdonald, rest assured, we empathyse with you.

Mr. Guthrie I take strong exception to your comments. You are correct the average gambler does not know what drivers, jockeys, or for that matter any other person or cops included go through. Having said that when the sport you are in survives because and when you are able to earn a living because the "average gambler" like myself bets our hard earned dollars, criticism is fair game. You cannot ask us to wager our hard earned and in many cases large dollars and not be critical. That is human nature and and it is also fair. When I criticise a driver I criticise his particular drive on a horse or overall abilities. I do not criticise him as a person, nor do I criticise his family etc. I am well within what is considered reasonable and fair. I don't know of any gamblers however who take any particular pleasure in seeing what happened to Mark or any other dirver, jockey, horse or any human being for that matter.I was there when Avelino Gomez went down and to this day it saddens me. I may bet a lot of money but I and many other "average gamblers" get just as concerned when we see someone go down as any of you so called horse people.
