Western and Camluck: neck-and-neck in the stretch

Has anyone noticed what a horse race we have between Camluck and Western Hanover to be the leading sire in the sport in North America for 2008?

According to the stats today, Western Hanover holds a lead of less than $100,000 with both stallions having over $14 million total earnings.

To be exact, Camluck has $14,056,890, nipping at the heels of Western Hanover’s $14,143,128. Yessir, that’s a difference of maybe just one good night by Camluck.

This race might go down to December 31. It’s happened before. We still have five weeks left in the racing season, so it is likely to seesaw back and forth during that time. Of course, a big win or two by the offspring of one stallion could give him a little separation.

By the way, among pacing stallions, The Panderosa ranks third, followed by Bettor’s Delight, and Dragon Again.

Among trotters, Muscles Yankee holds a solid lead over the brothers Angus Hall and Conway Hall. Credit Winner is fourth and Striking Sahbra ranks fifth, just ahead of Yankee Glide and SJ’s Photo.

Western Hanover is trying to bar the door! With the great performance by Well Said in the 2 year old Crown Saturday night, Western is about $300,000 ahead.

Going into the evening races on 11/28, Western is approximately $22,900 ahead. They each have 9 horses entered tonight between The Meadowlands and Woodbine. Although Western has more horses in the Crown finals, I think Camluck has a better chance with Chancey Lady.

Anyone know what the earnings record for a first crop trotting stallion is??? Cantab Hall currently has 2.2 million earned by his first crop, and has 5 entered in the Breeder's Crown Finals Saturday night.

Western still has about a $31,000 lead over Camluck.

It's getting even tighter. Now the difference is just about $17,500 and Chancey Lady by Camluck sure closed like a rocket last night to win her Breeders Crown elim. She could get a good chunk of the Breeders Crown final and help her sire considerably.

The race continues to tighten! Western is currently ahead by about $69,000 despite having 57 less starters. Western has two in the Breeders Crown elims tonight compared to one for Camluck. It just might all come down to the Breeders Crown!

Need to comment on the very strong showing by Cantab Hall. His 70 starters have made 2.2 million dollars. His first crop is averaging $20,000+ per foal, or an incredible $32,414 per starter. To get a bigger picture, he is 20th on the all age list of leading trotting sires, despite having only one crop of racing age.
