Among the freshman male pacers, it looks as if blog readers have given Nebupanezzar a slight edge oveer Well Said with Major In Art getting one vote. Feel free to chip in with your opinions if you haven't already responded to this post.

So what about the girls? Who is the best freshman pacing filly of this year?

It's not such an easy call. Fox Valley Topaz scored in the Breeders Crown and leads the division in earnings, but what about the achievements of St Lads Popcorn, Twist And Clout, Right Right, Hawaiian Drink, and Pedigree Snob? No slouches in that bunch.

Shanghai Lil, which sounds like the name of a woman that a sailor met while on shore leave, was the fastest freshman filly at 1:51.2. And I liked Warrawee Kay, the Real Desire filly who demonstrated her speed early and was still around at Breeders Crown time.

Best freshman pacing filly of the season in North America? Tell me your pick.

I hate to be cynical, but with all the trouble Rucker has been in in the past (and Engel obviously hasn't learned) I couldn't vote for FV Topaz, as great a horse as she is. Being from the states, St Lads Popcorn isn't an option either as she never came south of the border. But all the fillies down here have been amazing and it's hard to choose...
