Born in Inverness, to a family with deep roots in Atlantic Canadian racing, Jeff Gillis always wanted to win the Gold Cup & Saucer; partly in the memory of his late father. Jeff accomplished that goal in 2023, with Covered Bridge, but shortly after their return to Ontario, Jeff and his wife Sarah received some troubling news in regard to her health. A year later, and with Sarah back in a good place health-wise, the grateful couple decided to try and double-up in the Gold Cup, and with the help of their defending champion, they did just that.
