Rick Cushing had always dreamed about having a horse in the Gold Cup and Saucer, but making the trip from Maine was something that he just couldn’t make happen before succumbing to leukemia in 2012.

In 2019, Rick’s son Ron, and his grandson Mitchell were both in the hands of the starter when the wings folded for the Gold Cup and Saucer, and the results would have made Rick more than proud. By Melissa Keith.
