Known for many years in the program as the Almost Doesn’t Count Stable, Bert Smith was one of the biggest owners in the sport for years, and helped his main trainer, Kevin McMaster, win the 2000 O’Brien Award as Canada’s Trainer of the Year. Bert, whose daughter Shanay is interested in getting a horse with him again one day, has both happy and not-so-happy memories of his time in racing, and he shares his thoughts on it all with us here.
