If you’re feeling the pressure of late autumn, believe me — I understand! Here at Twinbrook, we sold 21 yearlings at the Canadian Open, prepped 14 for Harrisburg, and even squeezed in a short trip to Lexington. We also have a son who plays AAA hockey, and two teenage girls who barrel race — they’ve just returned from riding at the Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio. In between, we look after the daily operations of our farm, and volunteer time with various industry committees! Whew!
Luckily November will be a little slower around here with the yearlings gone, but the preparation for 2012 sales begins the day we get home from Harrisburg with this crop of weanlings. Broodmares also come into the barn, which is the very first step in sale preparation for our unborn foals. This is the exciting cycle of life I’m so blessed to be a part of!
It was very interesting to see at Lexington the long awaited anticipation of the stallions selling their first offspring — Sombeachsomewhere (whose son Hitting The Cycle stole the spotlight at Lexington by bringing a sale topping bid of $450,000), Deweycheatumnhowe, Christian Cullen, and Crazed, for starters. New to Ontario stallions Santanna Blue Chip, Badlands Hanover and Muscle Mass, were all well received by buyers too.
Here at SC we have two days of meetings coming up; the Breeders, Audit & Governance, and Executive Committees along with the full Board of Director’s are scheduled in mid-November. The 2012 budget will of course be the main focus of the meetings, so check back in your Christmas issue and I’ll fill you in on all the details!
