The grey gelding by the name of Six Gun will never be in the hall of fame. He did win sub-1:50 twice, and he set a track record at Running Aces even, but what he’ll always mean to Nicole Gagnon, his one-time caretaker, goes far beyond lifetime records and purse money.
Separated in 2013 when the horse was claimed, Nicole continued to keep tabs on her friend. They were reunited in 2020, and although their reunion didn’t last nearly as long as one would’ve hoped, her equine friend was right there for her when she needed him most. By Rachel Oenema.
