The Harness Horse Youth Foundation, in conjunction with the Kentucky Horse Council, is offering a backstretch tour for youth groups or families wishing to get a behind-the-scenes look at harness racing on Sunday, October 6, the day of the prestigious Kentucky Futurity for three-year-old trotters at Lexington’s historic Red Mile racetrack.

The tour will start at 11:30 a.m. The grandstand entrance will be the meeting place.

Participants will visit the Stable of Memories barn and museum; visit the front paddock area; get a close-up explanation of harness racing equipment; experience the trotters and pacers, along with their trainers, drivers and caretakers; and prepare for the biggest day in Kentucky harness racing. They will also get a chance to meet with HHYF alumni and staff and learn about the many equine programs the foundation presents.

Backstretch tour participants are invited to stick around for the race card, which begins at 1:00 p.m.

The tour is free, but space is limited and advance reservations are required. To reserve a spot for your family or group, call HHYF Executive Director Ellen Taylor at 317-867-5877 or email her at [email protected] no later than Wednesday, October 2.
