Kawartha Downs will host the final card of its 2016 harness racing season on Saturday (October 1). There’s something for everyone, as the track will be celebrating another strong meet in terms of horse population, attendance, handle and competitive horse racing.
Just like in the grandstand every race night, there will be regular performers and newcomers on the racetrack as well.
In Race 4 there will be three horses making their first lifetime starts. The youngest of the group is the two-year-old Armbro Deuce colt Four For Orr, who has drawn Post 7 with Tony Kerwood down to drive. From the immediate family of millionaire Camaes Fellow, Four For Orr charted his first line in a qualifier last week over the Fraserville oval and finished second.
Others that will be making their career debuts include the five-year-old Jenna Beach Boy horse Gramps (Post 5) and a three-year-old son of Western Ideal named Shelbys Ideal (Post 9). The latter colt is from the immediate family of Krispy Apple, a winner of $1.7 million during her career.
The always popular ‘Hands On Horses’ will return Saturday night, which will give fans the opportunity to win a trip around the track behind a harness horse. Standardbred Canada’s I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club will be on hand with a contest and giveaways. The track will also give away hats, t-shirts and other prizes throughout the evening as it thanks its wonderful fans for another great season.
First-race post time Saturday night is 7 p.m.
