Red Shores has sent out its preview of this weekend’s races at Charlottetown Driving Park and Summerside Raceway.
Brodys Leona Draws The Rail In CDP’s Mares Open
Brodys Leona has the rail in the $2,200 Mares Open feature event Saturday at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park. First-race post time is 6:00 p.m.
Kenny Arsenault will drive the four-year-old mare for Kerry Taylor, Lisa Richards and the Estate of Glen Taylor in the Canadian Coast Guard Search & Rescue sponsored pace (Race 12). Stayoutofmyaffair is carrying a four-race winning streak into the event, but has drawn Post 8 for driver Mark Bradley. The Robi Hughes-owned pacer captured the Atlantic Aged Mares final last week in Summerside with a 1:57.3 score. Dirt Track Momma, who finished second to Stayoutofmyaffair in the final, has been established as the morning-line favourite with Terry Gallant in the bike. The mare has been putting up some big numbers this season (33-16-4-6).
The field also includes JK Special (to be driven by Walter Cheverie), Lucky Boot Cam (Jason Hughes), Bunny Mach (Gary Chappell) and General Luckypercy (Ron Matheson).
In other action, Fitelle, owned and driven by Peter Lanigan, Montague, is the early favourite in the Martin MacDougall Memorial Pace (Race 4). Glencove Uday and Buck Barker are also top-three candidates. Northern Trapper is the morning-line favourite (5-2) in the evening’s trot class.

Island Pacing Championship Highlights Summerside Card; Big League And All Turain Entered In The Series
The top horses in the region touch down in the Island Pacing Championship Series Leg 1, presented by Meridian Farms, Sunday at Red Shores Summerside. First-race post time is 1:00 p.m.
Big League is back on Island soil after making headlines around the region with his impressive performances at Exhibition Park Raceway in Saint John, Fredericton and Truro. Trainer Jonah Moase has listed Corey MacPherson on the son of Four Starzzz Sharp who will make his 50th lifetime start from Post 6. The star studded line-up has Leading Camdidate (PP1), Creighton Hanover (PP2), Narragansett (PP3), Wild Dragon (PP4) and Balanchine (PP5).
The next division of IPC (Race 11) has superstar All Turain headlining the class from Post 2 for driver Brodie MacPhee. The four-year-old pacer has been simply amazing with three wins in a row with his last start at Northside Downs in a sparkling 1:54.2 mile for owners Lee and Trevor Hicken.
Premier’s Pace winner Touch of Lightning will start from the rail in the $3,500 class for Earl Smith while Windemere Express (Terry Gallant), Oakrock Almighty (Ron Matheson), Lucky Encounter (Walter Cheverie) and Cambest Kisser (Jason Hughes) complete the field to kick off one of the biggest series of the fall. The championship final is Sunday, October 13 during the Atlantic Breeders Crown weekend.
The 12-dash program will also feature Megandrive racing for his third straight victory for driver Walter Cheverie. The veteran driver has teamed up with Noonan Petroleum in the Drive for Charity event to raise money for the Prince County Hospital Foundation. This team is closing in on $1,000 raised for the local charity which wraps up on October 28, 2013.
