When Grand River Raceway wraps up its 2015 live harness racing season on September 30, the popular Jackpot Hi-5 wager will offer a mandatory payout.
The rotating Jackpot Hi-5 wager was featured all race season, held between the Elora oval and Georgian Downs (until the season conclusion), then Flamboro Downs.
The wager requires a horseplayer to correctly select the top five finishers in order. If there are multiple winning tickets, 50 per cent of that evening’s pool is split among the winning tickets, while the other half is carried over to the following card, or distributed entirely on a declared mandatory payout night. There’s a 20-cent minimum wager and a takeout of 15 per cent.
On September 30, the entire carryover is split among the evening’s winning tickets.
As of press time (September 25), the Jackpot Hi-5 carryover is $8,166.54.
In this inaugural year of offering the Jackpot Hi-5 wager, the biggest winner was an on-track player at Grand River Raceway who cashed for $31,383.73.
The track’s 49th and final card of 2015 will determine a hotly contested race for the "Top Dash-Winning Driver" title. Bob McClure is looking to secure his first Grand River Raceway title with 45 wins from 284 starts. Scott Coulter is closing in with 42 wins from 250 starts.
Richard Moreau will take back-to-back training honours with 21 wins from 75 starts — 12 wins better than his closest competitor.
Racing continues Monday (September 28) and concludes September 30. Post time is 6:30 p.m.
