Temagami Seelster Looking For Six

The hottest filly on Canada's eastern seaboard will again take a step up in competition, as Temagami Seelster will be looking to extend her win streak to six on Thursday evening (Sept. 24) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 12-dash Thursday presentation has a 6 p.m. opening post time, and the featured $2,300 pace will line up for Race 11.

Temagami Seelster will start from Post 3 in the compact field of five with Brodie MacPhee at the controls again this week for trainer Tom Weatherbie and Nova Scotia owners David Mercer, Wayne McGean and Joseph Lewis. The three-year-old Sunshine Beach filly won her fifth consecutive race last week in Charlottetown. Her main rivals will be to her outside on Thursday evening. Better Be In Love will have Jason Hughes back in the bike for trainer Brendan Mullen from Post 4, while 2017 Atlantic Triple Crown winner Filly Forty Seven will start from Post 5 for trainer/driver Marc Campbell.

Peter MacPhee in the 'Post Time Picks' has Temagami Seelster on top in the evening feature. “Temagami Seelster fired off the wings and never looked back winning her fifth in a row on PEI. Has to move up and there is speed to her inside, but we’re confident Brodie maps out a trip and gets her to the wire first.”

Other entries in the pacing feature are Lean On Who (to be driven by Gilles Barrieau) and Southwind Ion (David Dowling).

The 'top trot' of the night will line up for Race 8, which will feature a $2,150 purse. Labero has been installed as the morning line choice and will start from Post 5 with Dowling driving for trainer Randy Van Meer and owner Donna Van Meer of Bowmanville, Ont. The six-year-old son of Kadabra has recorded six top-three finishes this season from 12 starts; and in his latest outing he produced a third-place finish behind Mile Hill Willie and Hop Up while being race-timed in 1:58.3. Those two foes will be absent on Thursday evening, but Labero will have to contend with past Open class winner Majian Tango (Jim Ripley) from Post 5 and Maritime Champion Windmeredontuworry (Adam Merner) from Post 6. Newcomer Cheeky Little Minx will start from Post 2 for trainer/driver Barrieau after coming to P.E.I. from the New York racing circuit.
