Walter Parkinson Sr. Passes

Trot Insider has been informed that longtime Standardbred breeder/owner Walter Parkinson Sr. of Lucan, Ont. passed away at University Hospital on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the age of 69.

Parkinson bred and owned Standardbreds since the 1970s and was passionate about the industry. Highlighting his involvement was the success of Lady D M, both as a multiple stakes winning filly and as a broodmare, and his 2019 OSS Grassroots winner Coco Beach De Vie.

Cherished husband of RuthAnn (Hardie) Parkinson for 44 years. Loving father of Melanie Parkinson of Lucan, Walter Jr. and Sarah Baier of Lucan, Melissa Parkinson and Laurier Cadotte of London, and Michele Parkinson of London. Adored papa of Quinn, Emmett, Rhett; Remi, and Leo. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Norma and Stan Hodgins of Arva, Brian and Gerri Parkinson of Strathroy, Wayne and Carla Parkinson of London, Edward and Heather Parkinson of St. Marys, Jane Parkinson and Phil Hassen of London, Peter and Deb Parkinson of Woodstock, Gil and Tracey Parkinson of Glendale, Arizona, Susan and Lewis Browning of Mt. Brydges, Gloria Leslie of Thorndale, and Marlene and Bob Stephen of Thorndale. Walter will be missed by many friends and extended family. Predeceased by his parents William (Gib) and Maxine (Turner) Parkinson, and Art and Wilma Hardie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lucan Community Memorial Centre, 263 Main Street, Lucan on Thursday, September 26 from 12 – 2 p.m., with words of remembrance at 1 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Haskett Funeral Home, Lucan (519-227-4211).
