Red Shores’ Weekend Set To Go

Red Shores will again offer a full slate of racing this weekend, as the Charlottetown Driving Park will kick off the action Saturday evening and will be followed by Summerside Raceway on Sunday afternoon.

Clic K on top of his game; Drive for Charity swings into final month at Island racetracks

Clic K is the morning line favorite in the Saturday preferred pace at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park. He’s earned it.

The Jackie Matheson trainee is coming off a stellar performance when he toured the city oval in 1:53.3, which capped off a nine-win display by driver Gilles Barrieau during PEI Colt Stakes Week last Saturday. Barrieau will be on a stakes’ assignment at Northside Downs in Nova Scotia, so Brian MacPhee has gotten the call to drive for the Plo Stables, Donagh, PE. The cards should all line up from Post 5 as the eight-year-old will race for his second win in a row and fourth of the season. His stablemate, Starcastic, who will be driven by Ron Matheson, will start alongside him in Post 6.

Nogreatmischief, who will be handled by Gary Chappell, will be back to compete after having finished second to Clic K by three lengths the last time they met.

Ramblinglily is back on the Island and has drawn Post 2 in the match-up for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Allan Jones, Riverview, NB. ‘Lily’ has recorded 10 wins from 17 starts, while All Turain, who is trained by Trevor Hicken, will have Ryan Desroche in the bike, as Corey MacPherson is also booked for stakes action in Nova Scotia. The rail has gone to Narragansett, who will have Jason Hughes in the bike for Foxyhall Racing, Summerside, PE.

Jetta Flys has had quite the streak lately. The pacer, under the command of Stephen Quinn, has recorded five straight second-place finishes, but moves up to take on Oh To Be Me and Spirit of America in Race 9.

The annual Drive for Charity is coming into the homestretch. The promotion that matches 10 drivers with businesses to raise money for local charities moves into its final month.

Post time for the 12 dash card is 6 p.m.

Rash B Havior goes for feature repeat at Summerside; Gallant leading trainer

The harness racing action will shift back to Sunday afternoon at Red Shores Summerside. First-race post time is 1 p.m.

The feature (Race 12) is scheduled for a 4:08 p.m. post time. Rash B Havior will be gunning for back-to-back victories from the Michael Peters stable after having taken the top spot in 1:56.3 fashion Tuesday under the lights. Ken Murphy, who currently sits fifth in the Summerside driver standings with 23 wins, will catch-drive from Post 6 against a star-studded field that includes Doing Some Damage off the rail for Brian MacPhee. Motorino, a strong triactor candidate, will start from the seven-hole for Terry Gallant. DBS Rosco (to be driven by Michael McGuigan), Lucky Encounter (Gary Chappell), Jeb (Jason Hughes) and Machinthesand (Norris Rogers) round out the roster.

Gallant has a slight lead in the top trainer standings at Summerside with 13 victories, followed by Ron Gass (12) and Ralph Sweet (10).

The Sweet stable has another new addition with Jester joining the line-up at their O’Leary operation. The son of Jeremes Jet has been perfect since arriving on the red soil after competing at Grand River Raceway and Georgian Downs in Ontario. Rising Fella has also moved to PEI for trainer Jansen Sweet and co-owners Allison Sweet and Brody Ellis, Alberta. The three-year-old will line up in Race 4.

The top driver standings (heading into Sunday’s program) are as follows: Marc Campbell (32), Corey MacPherson (26), Jason Hughes (25), Ken Murphy (23), Kenny Arsenault (22).
