Ross Horne Passes

Ross Horne, longtime harness horse enthusiast, owner and trainer passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Leacock Care Centre on Orillia, Ont. on August 31 at the age of 87

.

Along with his late wife Patricia (1996), Horne trained and raced a small stable of up to five horses from 1975 to 1996. Their most noted horse was Drive And Desire (Andy). Horne's pride and joy earned 50 wins over his career and was undefeated in his first 19 races.

Even though his hands on racing days were long gone, Horne watched and talked about racing constantly, even making it down to Georgian Downs a couple of times a month right up to the week before he died.

Beloved husband of the late Patricia (nee: Davis). Special friend of Shirley Smith. Loving father of Betty-Ann (Stan Herbert, predeceased) of Barrie, Susie French of Midland and John (Vangie) of Englehart. Proud of his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Brother of Earl (Ella) of Hawkestone and Robert predeceased (wife Edith surviving).

Horne will rest at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orillia, Ont. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 11 a.m. until time of Funeral Service in the chapel at 1 p.m. Reception following service. Interment: Esson Presbyterian Church Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to the Esson Presbyterian Church or to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
