‘Alumni Show’ Interviews Lear

Published: September 17, 2020 03:17 pm EDT

The most recent edition of the Harness Racing Alumni Show is now available for listening.

William Lear, vice chairman of The Jockey Club, is this week’s guest. The show has said that Lear is the main creator of the Horseracing Integrity & Safety Act, which has been a much discussed piece of legislation south of the border.
During the show, Lear explains how the new regulations were scrutinized by Constitutional attorneys before being presented to the Senate and the House. He explains that the legislation is not a ‘one size fits all’ bill, and that there would be different medication rules for each breed, while making it clear that the harness racing cost would be negotiated for a lower price.

Lear then explains how testing would be done. The goal of the legislation is to have national uniform standards on medication and safety in the United States.

The show can be listened to below.
