Driver, Trainer Titles Down To The Wire

Published: September 16, 2011 04:11 pm EDT

With just over one week left until the end of Hippodrome de Quebec's 2011 season, a few drivers and trainers have distinguished themselves during the year and are still battling for the championship in their respective category

.

Nobody has been assured of a title to date, thus the door has been left open for an out-and-out battle until September 25.

Pascal Bérubé is currently the leading driver with 19 wins from 99 starts, but his closest rival, Mario Charron, the champion of the 2010 season, is only lagging behind by two victories. Jocelyn Gendron is currently sitting third with 13 wins. Marie-Claude Auger, the only active female driver at the Hippodrome de Quebec, has also done well this season. She currently has 12 victories from 74 attempts.

The training battle is even tighter, as only one win separates the top five finishers. Only two wins currently separates the first nine in the standings.

Marcel Barrieau is the leading trainer with eight wins from 26 starts, but Marie-Claude Auger, Herman Gagné, Alain Martin and Gaetan Fortin are all tied up with seven victories each.

Hippodrome de Quebec will be hosting programs of live racing this Saturday and Sunday. Each card has a 1:05 p.m. first-race post time.
