Escape The Wind At Mohawk Saturday

Published: September 13, 2019 10:49 am EDT

Fans flocking to Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday evening for the stakes-laden card will find a familiar face in the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society’s Meet & Greet area.

Superstar pacer Escape The Wind will be on hand to meet the patrons and have his photo taken. Campaigned brilliantly during his racing career by Roger Mayotte, Escape The Wind won more than $2.1 million during his career which spanned nine years. In total he started 224 times with 62 lifetime victories. The now 19-year-old gelding currently spends his well deserved days of leisure with Bonnie Holland.

Saturday’s star-studded card is anchored by the Canadian Trotting Classic, featuring Hambletonian winner and Ontario-sired Forbidden Trade, the Peaceful Way, Elegantimage and William Wellwood Memorial Finals in addition to eliminations for the Metro Pace and the Shes A Great Lady.

Escape The Wind will be located by the main entrance by the OSAS merchandise table and will be accompanied by his buddy Charlie, another retired Standardbred. Racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

I have seen a lot of horses in my life, but Escape the Wind was one of the most striking standardbreds I have ever seen, when he was racing at Mohawk.
Kudos to Roger Mayotte for bringing him out
