Trotters In Red Shores’ Spotlight Thurs.

Published: September 12, 2018 03:22 pm EDT

The top stakes trotters in Atlantic Canada will meet this Thursday evening (Sept. 13) at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park as they look to cement their position in the Island Breeders Series.

First-race post time for the 12-dash card will be at 6:30 p.m.

The program will feature the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two and three-year-old trotters. Each horse will be vying for points for the Island Breeders final, which is scheduled for Oct. 27 in Charlottetown.

The juvenile trotters will compete in a lone division (Race 6) that will feature a nine-horse field and a purse of $8,900. Post 8 starter Dusty Lane Titan is the morning line favourite for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Grayland Farm of Pugwash, NS. The son of Tad The Stud is riding a three-race win streak into the event, but will face divisional leader Little Miss Winnie for just the second time in their careers. In their first meeting, Little Miss Winnie left from the outside and was parked out for the duration of the mile before finishing fourth (Dusty Lane Titan fininshed second).

The roles will be reversed in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes. Little Miss Winnie will start from Post 3 Thursday. Little Miss Winnie has recorded wins in her two last races for trainer Ralph Annear and owner Steven Sorrie of Montague, P.E.I. Kenny Arsenault handles the driving duties for the filly. Mile Hill Willie, who was also a winner in his last race after having made a break at the start, will host Gilles Barrieau back in the bike from Post 2.

The three-year-old trotting colts will also be performing, as a pair of divisions of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes have also been carded for Race 4 and 8. West River Cindy has been favoured for Race 4. He will start from Post 1 for driver Kenny MacDonald, trainer Clare MacDonald and owner Haley Shepherd of Stratford, P.E.I. The Armbro Barrister filly has yet to miss the top two this season from six outings including a best time of 2:00.3 in her latest start.

The other division (Race 8) will see Buckaroo and Windemeredontuworry tangle again. Buckaroo is riding a three-race win streak and will start from Post 2 with Marc Campbell in the bike for owners Larry and Kathy Chappell of Marshfield, P.E.I. Buckaroo recorded an eight-length romp in his latest start. The defending Maritime Triple Crown winner Windemeredontuworry has been saddled with Post 7. Gillies Barrieau will be at the lines for trainer Terry Gallant.
