Lisburn Tackles Charlottetown Preferred

Published: August 30, 2019 01:36 pm EDT

After just missing his shot at history in The Guardian Gold Cup and Saucer final, Lisburn is sticking around Atlantic Canada and will take on the Saturday evening (Aug. 31) top class at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park. The 13-dash card gets underway at 6 p.m. Atlantic time.

Lisburn headlines the $2,900 Preferred Pace, serving as the evening's finale. Fresh off a third place finish in the $60,000 Gold Cup and Saucer final, the Kenny Arsenault-trained and driven pacer will leave from post three for owner Kevin Harvey. The four-year-old son of Rock N Roll Heaven has amassed $39,995 so far this season with a 1:51.4 seasonal best at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono. Rose Run Quest, who finished third in the 2018 Gold Cup and Saucer final, will leave from post seven on Saturday for trainer-driver Marc Campbell after winning this class last week in 1:54.3.

Best To Hurst was the runner-up in last week’s Preferred and retains the services of Walter Cheverie from post five.

Race analyst Les MacIsaac sides with the heavily favoured Lisburn.

“Those two Old Home Week starts were very impressive, especially the way he kicked home,” MacIsaac said of Lisburn. “He's clearly the one to beat off those performances, but don't expect him to offer the same kind of value tonight.”

Also in the Preferred field are IC True Grit (Mike McGuigan), Midnight Matt (Jason Hughes), Woodmere Ideal Art (John Davidson), Rockin Indy (Corey MacPherson) and JJ Powerball (Adam Merner).

Sodwana Bay will have to overcome post seven to find the winner’s circle in the Fillies and Mares Open Pace (race 10) for trainer-driver Barrieau. Other top entries include Jordies Hope (Merner) and Traces Of Purple (Cheverie).
