The opening leg of the Spud Island Classic Series, presented by PEI Potato Board, will feature two divisions along with nine of region’s best horses in the Preferred Pace Saturday night during an action-packed program at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

First-race post time is 7:00 p.m.

JK Special, owned and trained by Joe Smallwood, headlines the first division of the Spud Island Classic. The mare has been on the board 14 of 15 starts but will start from Post 7 for driver Walter Cheverie. General Lucky Percy, who gets the services of Gilles Barrieau, will start from the back tier Post 9, but has rallied for victories in her last two outings.

Meanwhile Block Party is the 5-2 morning-line favourite in the other leg of the Spud Island Classic (Race 10) for trainer Darren Trainer and owners Bill and Brian Andrew of Meridian Farms fame. Jason Hughes, who has been red-hot lately, has been assigned to drive Block Party.

Meanwhile Oakrock Almighty and Leading Camdidate hook up in the Preferred Pace in Race 11.
