Due to an early Labour Day holiday this year, Monticello Raceway’s live racing schedule will change slightly in September.
Since Labour Day falls on Monday, September 2, Monticello will be dark that afternoon, and to keep continuity with the four-day-a-week schedule, a card of racing has been added for Friday September 6. After that date, racing will be back to the usual Monday-through-Thursday format throughout the remainder of the month.
All first-race post times will continue to be at 12:50 p.m.
The added program on Friday, September 6 will be the track's third annual All Amateur Day, and all the races will be driven by some of the nation’s top amateur reinsmen.
“We are proclaiming September 6 ‘Veterans Day at the Races,’ and the main reason for the added program is to help raise awareness and money for the Monticello Veterans Food Pantry," noted Eric Warner, the track's Director of Racing .
Alan Schwartz, an amateur driver and president of the Monticello Harness Horsemen’s Association, is spearheading the fundraiser. He is a former Marine Corporal who fought in Vietnam.
