Tough Test For Bettim Jackie

Published: August 22, 2018 02:30 pm EDT

Bettim Jackie has been razor sharp in stakes competition against the top sophomore on Canada’s eastern seaboard, but she will face her toughest test to date against aged campaigners this Thursday evening (Aug. 23) at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 10-dash card will get underway at 6:30 p.m.

Bettim Jackie has been installed as second choice in the six-horse top event, which has been carded as Race 9 and is sponsored by MacPherson Roche and Smith.

Gilles Barrieau will be back in the bike behind the daughter of Andreoli Hanover for trainer Jeff Lilley of Milton, who co-owns with Danny Purcell of Newport, NS and Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown.

The talented pacer has recorded seven wins from 18 seasonal starts and has banked $76,645 in earnings this year. She will face off against Governor’s Plate finalist Nogreatmischief, who will start from Post 5 in this week’s $2,300 contest for trainer-driver Walter Cheverie. Fast N Victorious will also make a return to pari-mutuel competition in the class off of a pair of qualifiers and will start from Post 6 for driver Adam Merner and trainer Stephen Gass.

Rounding out the field will be Narragansett (driven by Jason Hughes) and The Big Bite (Kenny Arsenault).

The card’s top trot will line up for the D &G Younker Memorial (Race 5) which will carry a purse of $1,800. Frill Seeker is the morning line favourite from Post 4 for trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault and owner Ebbsfleet Stable of Stratford, Ont. Other top entries include Glencove Carter (Steven Shepherd) and Majian Tango (Jim Ripley).
