Grand River Raceway has added fireworks to its Community Night celebration on Friday, August 30.
The family-friendly festivities are free of charge and kick off with the first of 10 horse races at 6:30 p.m. The fireworks display will begin at approximately 10:30 p.m. (30 minutes following the last horse race).
BBQ specials ($2 hamburgers and hotdogs, $1 pop) will be available at two locations on the tarmac.
Cash draws totalling $1,000 will be conducted for guests from the local community whose postal code begins with NOB or N1M. Proof of residency is required and draw participants must be 18 or older and present to win.
Community Night also boasts the track’s usual array of Friday race night offerings, including free kids’ activities in The NEIGHbourhood (located in the First Turn Tent) and the chance for guests of all ages to drive a racehorse in a double-seated jog cart, accompanied by a pro. This opportunity is limited to seven spots and guests must sign-up at the tarmac booth beside the racetrack.
Community Nights are presented by the track’s parent organization, the Grand River Agricultural Society (GRAS). During the event, GRAS will honour local resident Paul Kelly who has dedicated his life to preserving the bee population. Kelly will be onsite and available for questions and discussion about his work from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
The fireworks display on Community Night will be coordinated by The Weinstein Group Inc. of Fergus, ON in partnership with Pyro World. The show will feature a massive display of fireworks choreographed to a collection of feel-good summertime songs.
