Red Shores' Summerside Raceway will be hosting a rare Wednesday night program of harness racing on August 21. The action will kick off under the lights at 7:00 p.m. and the spotlight will be on the two and three-year-old trotters in the Lady Slipper Stakes.
Taliesin, owned by Buntainwood Farm of Brackley Beach, will be looking for his fifth win in a row in the three-year-old division of the Lady Slipper. Gold Cup-winning driver Marc Campbell will be in the bike when the son of Northern Bailey lines up in Post 2. Rash Statement, with Walter Cheverie, and Topway and Kuri White are also morning-line favourites.
Oceanview Kate from the Bill Roloson stable of Belfast gets the nod in the other three-year-old division. The filly has three wins from four starts this season including an Atlantic Sire Stakes score during Old Home Week. Mike Stevenson will do the driving.
Dusty Lane Galaxy will headline the two-year-old Lady Slipper splits after having recorded three straight winning performances and banking $8,982 this season. Peter Buchanan and the estate of George Boswell share the ownership papers on the son of PJs Nabby. Gary Chappell will handle the colt for trainer Stacy Lund. Bo Digger, owned by Zackery MacEwen, Stratford and Phantom Beau, owned by Peter Breau of Moncton, trained by John Pineau and driven by Kenny Arsenault, are favourites in their races.
The program also features the Peter Coughlin 30th Anniversary Memorial (Race 11). Tambora has drawn the rail in the event for owner Paul Trainer and driver Daryl Jelley.
