Always At My Place has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favourite for this Saturday’s (Aug. 19) $60,000 Sobeys Gold Cup & Saucer, the centerpiece of Old Home Week at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park on PEI.
The Gold Cup and Saucer has been carded as Race 14 (approximate post time 11:58 p.m.) on the CDP’s evening program of racing, which will start with a first-race post time of 7:00 p.m. The day’s racing action at the CDP will start earlier in the day, though, as a 13-race afternoon program of live racing will kick things off at 1:00 p.m.
Off of his dominant eight-length win in Trial 1, Always At My Place (PP6, Marc Campbell) has been pegged as the early choice for trainer Ron Burke. The six-year-old Always A Virgin gelding was odds-on during his trial and raced like a solid favourite. Campbell gave the career winner of 32 races a front-end trip, and the gelding responded by pacing to an eight-length victory in 1:51.1. Always At My Place is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC (of Fredericktown, PA), Weaver Bruscemi LLC (Canonsburg, PA), Lawrence Karr (Randolph, NJ) and Phillip Collura (Mountain Top, PA).
Always At My Place - Trial 1
YS Lotus (PP5, L. Roy), who also raced large in his trial, has been named the slight 3-1 second morning line selection for trainer Rene Allard. The If I Can Dream gelding surged from off the pace late in his mile to get up and record a neck victory in 1:52.4. YS Lotus is owned by Yves Sarrazin of La Presentation, Quebec.
