The draw for the 2016 Sobeys Gold Cup & Saucer took place during the Tuesday night card of harness racing at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park.
Elimination winners Ys Lotus and Go Daddy Go both drew favourably, nabbing two of the three inside posts.
Ys Lotus was untouchable on Saturday night, taking no prisoners in a three-plus length 1:51.1 score for Louis Philippe Roy and trainer Rene Allard. Ys Lotus' stablemate Shades Of Bay, driven by Brad Forward, tipped out from fifth at the half and advanced to finish second. Local contender D Gs Camme and Gilles Barrieau closed inside for third-place over Foiled Again and Marc Campbell.
Ys Lotus drew Post 3, while stablemate and fellow elim winner Go Daddy Go drew the coveted rail.
In rein to Brad Forward on Monday night for Trial #2, Go Daddy Go shot to immediate command from Post 4 in the $12,500 tilt, and the four-year-old son of Ponder-Sanfrancine chopped out panels of :27, :55.4 and 1:24. He then used a :28.1 closing quarter to fend off the late-driving Limelight Beach by a half-length margin. Alexas Jackpot and Paparazzi Hanover, were third and fourth, respectively.
