Ont. Resident Mare Program Enrollment Due Sept. 1

The Standardbred Breeders of Ontario Association would like to remind breeders that time is quickly running out. If you have a mare that foaled in 2009 in the province of Ontario and it has been resident in the province for 180 days surrounding foaling, you must register your mare in order to be eligible

to receive Ontario-Bred Rewards from resulting foals that may race in 2011 and beyond.

These awards can be substantial and consist of:

  • 15% of a horse’s total OSS earnings
  • 15% of a horse’s earnings in selected 'Open' stakes races held in Ontario

Rewards for non-Ontario-Sired foals are also in effect for foals born in 2009 out of an Ontario Resident Mare that amount to:

  • 15% of the horses earnings in selected 'Open' stakes races held in Ontario

Enrolling your mare into the 2009 Ontario Mare Residency Program is simple. Program eligibility and enrollment forms are available at ontarioracingcommission.ca or the Ontario Sires Stakes (ontariosiresstakes.com).

Any owner, lessee or authorized agent must currently hold a valid ORC licence. It is extremely important the forms must be received (not postmarked) by Standardbred Canada (Ontario Resident Mare Program) by September 1.

The cost associated with enrollment of each mare is $50 and must accompany the enrollment form. A booklet entitled 'Standardbred Improvement Program 2009 Program Criteria' has been published and addresses many elements of the program. These can still be obtained through Standardbred Canada.
