In July we celebrated National Caretaker Appreciation Day (NCAD) at racetracks, stables and training centres across the country, and to recognize the hard-working caretakers in our industry Standardbred Canada organized a NCAD Photo Contest.

We asked for photos of caretakers doing what they do best, taking care of the horses! The list of tasks that grooms perform day in and day out are endless, and we received many photos that exhibited just that!

The winning shot was photographed and submitted by Jackie McManus of Komoka, Ontario. The photo is of Chantal Vincent and Team Best, a two-year-old Somebeachsomewhere colt trained by Blake MacIntosh, and was snapped at the Meadowbranch Training Centre as the colt left the track from a training mile.

You may recognize the photo as it was featured in the Just Grazing section of TROT Magazine this month. Along with her photo being featured in TROT, Chantal won a $50 Visa Gift Card, and was awarded an enlarged canvas during a special presentation made at Meadowbranch Training Centre.

Chantal has worked at Meadowbranch Training Centre with Blake McIntosh for the last three years. Prior to that she worked in Quebec before moving to Ontario in 2012 to work with Dustin Jones.

Standardbred Canada would like to thank everyone who took part in the contest. Be sure to check out the 2019 NCAD spread in the September issue of TROT, which will include a photo of Chantal’s presentation.

Congratulations Chantal!
