Former Standardbred owner Robert 'Bob' Twaddle passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at the age of 96 after a brief illness.
Loving father to Cindy and Tim Twaddle (Sophia), proud grandfather to Jennifer, Jaclyn, Meadow, Lexi and Parker. Cherished brother to Margaret Doresco and several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his daughter Robin, sister Maureen, brother Dennis and his loving partner,
Ruth Bradley.
Bob was raised in St. Catharines, Ont. and was an accomplished athlete. He was an avid golfer and a founding member of the St. Catharines G&C Club, "Twentysome" group. He played hockey at an elite level and was the first St. Catharines native to lead a Junior A team in scoring When Bob was not playing hockey, he was a baseball pitcher on the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball farm team until a shoulder injury ended his pitching career. Bob chose to return home and married Patricia Morris, and enjoyed a long and successful career at Thompson Products.
Not one to remain idle, Bob worked for Calhoun Sportswear until his 80s after retiring from TRW. His strong work ethic was unparalleled and his word was his bond.
Bob was a lifelong fan of harness racing and enjoyed owning some Standardbreds with his son Tim.
He was a true gentleman as well as a man's man. He will be greatly missed his friends and family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are welcome.
