The Maritimes' two-year-old crop of 2020 will have its first chance to show what it's made of on Wednesday evening (July 8), as Atlantic Sires Stakes action will be on tap at Red Shores Summerside during Governor’s Plate Week racing.

The 10-dash Wednesday card has a 6 p.m. first-race post time, and the program will feature the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies. The docket has a pair of $12,620 Atlantic Sires Stakes 'A' divisions for the juvenile fillies, and the dashes have been carded as Race 6 and 8.

Race 6 will see the debut of Woodmere Stella from Post 2. The Earl Smith-trained and driven daughter of Steelhead Hanover qualified in 2:00.4 over the Charlottetown Driving Park for the ownership group of Next Generation Stable of Stratford. KCK Girlies is the second morning line choice for trainer-driver Mike McGuigan and is from the first crop of Source Of Pride. Little Miss Ava (to be driven by Myles Heffernan Sr.) will have rail control in the field of seven and will be representing the first crop of Hilarious Halo. Little Miss Ava recently recorded a qualifying win in 2:03.1.

The second split will line up for Race 8, and The Real McCoy is set to kick off her campaign from Post 4. The Real McCoy has been installed as the morning line favourite for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and Nova Scotia owners Grayland Farm of Gulf Shore and Robert Sumarah of Halifax. The Source Of Pride lass was a winner in her recent CDP qualifier in 2:01.4. The field will also include JJ Talisa from the first crop of Hilarious Halo for driver Redmond Doucet and trainer Robert MacLeod. The filly is the lone horse in the field to already have seen pari-mutuel action (she finished second at Inverness Raceway in 2:00.3). Vicky Everyday will start from Post 6 for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Paul Conway of Bonshaw. The filly is from the inaugural crop of Cougar Hall.

The program will also feature a pair of $2,500 Atlantic Sires 'B' divisions for juvenile fillies in Race 2 and 4.
