The racing community has lost a legend. Gord Mason of Orangeville, Ont., the creator of Grattan Helmets, passed away on June 12, 2026 at the age of 80.
If you've ever put on a Grattan helmet to do the job you love, you've experienced Gord's life's work. He poured his heart and soul into his craft, hand-designing and building each helmet so that both he and the racer could be proud. Every time a Grattan helmet went around the track, Gord felt like he was right there in the winner's circle. Alongside his devoted family, he dedicated his life to keeping this sport safe.
Gord didn't want a somber funeral — he wanted a celebration. Family and friends are invited to raise a toast, laugh and share your favourite memories of a man who gave so much to our sport on Thursday, July 16 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Adamo Estate Winery, 793366 3rd Line EHS, Mono, ON L9W 5X7.
