Recently retired trainer Bob Bencal is this week's guest on the Harness Racing Alumni Show.
Bencal, who was prominent at Roosevelt Raceway, Yonkers Raceway, and on the Grand Circuit, recounts some of his greatest horses and prominent owners, along with what it was like to train for Jeff Gural for almost 50 years. On a more serious note, Bencal touches on why policing integrity among harness racing participants is so difficult. He also discusses the special relationship he had with the last horse he trained, Genius At Work, and how 'Genius' is now a New York Police Department horse.
