Longtime harness racing industry participant Ole Jensen of St. Albert, Alta. passed away on July 20, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born on January 18, 1950, in Odense, Denmark, Ole immigrated to Canada at the age of seven. Ole’s early life centered on education, sports, and entering into the family business of Standardbred harness racing.
Ole is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 55 years, Jocelyne; his three children and their families: Michelle (Joseph) and their daughter, Maya (Darien), Shaun (Laura) and their children: Cole, Ava, Graeson, Lyla, and Ole Jr. (Erin) and their daughter, Ziya. Ole also leaves behind his brother, Alex (Barb). Ole was predeceased by his parents, Karlo and Norma; brother, Jan; and infant sister, Annette. Ole was a pillar of strength and dedication for our family.
Ole's early years were marked by his adventures in Standardbred harness racing, where he excelled as both a trainer and driver. His love for horses was a constant throughout his life. At the age of 23, Ole entered the flooring business, laying the foundation for what would become his life’s work. His intelligence and handy nature made him a respected figure in his field, and his creative touch could be seen in the beautiful spaces he created.
A man of many interests, Ole found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Each winter, he and Jocelyne would travel to Yuma, Arizona, where they basked in the sunshine and cherished the company of friends. Back home, Ole's green thumb was evident in the beautiful flower gardens that surrounded their home, a testament to his love for nature's beauty. His affinity for animals was another defining trait, with horses and dogs holding a special place in heart.
Creative, intelligent, and loving - these words paint a portrait of a man who approached life with thoughtful intention. Ole was a man of few words, but when he spoke it was something of importance. His legacy is one of beauty, both in his creative endeavors and in the lives, he touched with kindness and quiet strength.
As we bid farewell to Ole, we hold tight to the memories that he leaves behind - a tapestry woven with the threads of his love, dedication, and the indelible mark he made on the lives he touched.
