Thomas Braithwaite Passes

Standardbred trainer and owner Wm. Thomas Braithwaite passed away peacefully at his residence with his family by his side on July 25. He was in his 82nd year.

Beloved husband of 60 years to Jean. Loving father to Sharon Ann Ward (Bob Howard) and Tom Braithwaite (Chris). Proud grand-father to Matthew Ward (Crystal) and great-grandfather to Myles. Dear brother of June Dubay (the late Vern), Dorene Braithwaite, Marian English (Jim), Marilyn McMillan (Don) and pre-deceased by Betty and Basil Jerome. Will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Tom was a dedicated police officer. He served with the Hamilton Police for 33 years. An avid horse enthusiast, Tom had a love for horses starting at a young age where he would show ponies at the Ancaster Fair. He would later graduate to harness racing at Flamboro Downs.

The family will receive friends at the Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home "Ancaster Chapel" at 378 Wilson Street East on Sunday, July 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be offered in the funeral home chapel on Monday, July 29 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Bethesda United Church Cemetery in Ancaster. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Bethesda United Church.
